Was inscribed as a joint-stock company under Decree-Law No. 84, of October 13, 1984.

Availing itself of the powers conferred on it by Article 6 of the aforesaid Decree-Law, on October 17, 1984, Banco Nacional de Cuba issued Banco Financiero Internacional, S.A. a license to engage in banking business in the territory of the Republic of Cuba for an indefinite time, carrying out operations mainly in freely convertible currency.

Banco Financiero Internacional, S.A. was founded on November 3, 1984, and went into operation on November 5 of that year.

Among its authorised operations, the following are included:

• To put cash in and pay it out from demand and/or term deposit accounts.

• To receive and grant loans or other forms of financial credits.

• To handle transfers of funds to or from other countries.

• To buy and sell precious metals, freely convertible currency and securities.

• To buy and sell national currency which is legal tender.

• To receive deposits of securities denominated in foreign currency, in custody or in trust; provide services of administration of property, financial studies and others; and carry out brokering activities.

• To issue Letters of Guarantee

• To establish correspondent agreements with other banking entities.

The management and organisational structure of Banco Financiero Internacional, S.A. is as follows: a President, a Vice-President and ten Directors. It has a main vault and 28 branches distributed along the country.

Its main governing body is its Executive Board, assisted by a Credit Committee and the Board of Directors.

Ever since its constitution, Banco Financiero Internacional, S.A. has operated as a commercial bank, seeking mainly to provide services to foreign individuals and bodies corporate, economic associations and joint ventures. It has offered credit services to Cuban agencies and has also established correspondent relations with a large network of foreign banks.

Its current vision is focused on consolidating its foundations and broadening its services with new banking products, including BANCEL Debit Cards and Electronic Banking in general.
