| DEFENSE ZONE |
The Defense Zone constitutes the link between the Municipal Defense
Council and the popular masses. This
local component of the territorial defense system has, since its emergence in
1984, been a decisive piece of the original solutions applied to the country's
defense.

The Defense Zones have demonstrated that they are a powerful unifying
instrument for all the factors that play a part in national defense and an
element capable of mobilizing the masses and of defeating enemy activity.
Likewise, against natural disasters and catastrophes of various kinds,
they have often demonstrated in practice their high efficiency in tasks of
civil defense. |
The exemplary attitude of the Zone Defense Councils members --all unpaid voluntary positions-- and the readiness of the millions of Defense Zone members have been the key to the important results achieved by this basic structure of the defense system.
