THE ARMY

Territorial grouping of the forces and equipment of the general troops, which takes on the main role in armed struggle. Their territory is divided into military regions.  There are three armies:  the eastern, central, and western.

 VISION AND MISSION

The army is the territorial grouping of forces and equipment of the general troops of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.  The army has the main role in the implementation of the armed struggle and is responsible, in peacetime, for preparation for defense in the assigned territory.  The Army Military Council plays an important role in the territorial defense system.  There are three armies:  the eastern, central and western armies, these are deployed, as their names indicate, in the east, center and west of the island.  The army's territory is divided into military regions and these, in turn, are divided into military sectors.  There is also the Youth Working Army.

 STRUCTURE

The army has some combat and supply units, directly subordinated bodies and institutions.  The rest of these are under the command of the military regions headquarters.  In the composition of the army, there are ground units structured into brigades, regiments and infantry, tank, artillery and air defense battalions, the battalions of regular troops and the Territorial Troops Militia.  The army also comprises air and naval units.  The Border Brigade is part of the Eastern Army and its mission is to defend the border around the Guantánamo Naval Base, which is maintained illegally in Cuba by the United States government.
