ARMY CORPS  GENERAL  RAMON ESPINOSA MARTIN

 

Commander of the Eastern Army since 1982 

He was born on March 12, 1939 

He is a Higher Military School graduate.

He participated in the revolutionary struggle against the Batista tyranny, undertaking different actions as a member of the 26th of July Movement.  He joined the troops of the 13th of March Revolutionary Directorate in the Escambray region and had reached the rank of Second Chief of Guerrilla when the war ended. 

He is a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and since 1980 forms part of its Central Committee He is a Deputy to the National Assembly of the People’s Power. 

He has filled, among others, the following positions:  Infantry Battalion Commander, First officer and second Chief of the Operations Section of the Operations Division of the General Staff, Chief of Staff of the Motorized Infantry Division and First Substitute of the Commander of the Eastern Army.  

He accomplished an internationalist mission as commander of the Cuban military forces operating in Cabinda, People’s Republic of Angola, and Head of the Cuban Military Mission in Ethiopia.

He has been awarded the title of Hero of the Republic of Cuba.
