First deputy-minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces

He was born on February 16, 1936 

He is a Higher Military School graduate.

He participated in the revolutionary struggle against Batista’s tyranny, carrying out different activities as a member of the 26th of July Movement.  He joined the Rebel Army early in 1956 in the Frank País Second Eastern Front. 

He is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and since 1975 also of its Central Committee.  He is a Deputy to the National Assembly of the People’s Power. 

Among others, he has filled the following positions: Assistant to the Chief of the National Revolutionary Police; in the Revolutionary Armed Forces he has been the Head of the Supplies Administration of the Services Department of the Ministry, Chief  of  Headquarters and Deputy Minister for the Rearguard, Chief of the Army, Substitute of the Minister, Chief of  the Revolutionary Antiaircraft Defense and Airforce and Substitute of  the Minister of the RAF for Economic Activities. 

He accomplished an internationalist mission as Substitute of the Head of Cuba’s Military Mission in the Republic of Ethiopia, for the Rearguard.  

He has been awarded the title of Hero of the Republic of Cuba.
