| VISION AND MISSION
|
 |
The Territorial Troops Militia (MTT) is part of the Revolutionary Armed
Forces and constitutes one of the forms of popular organization for undertaking
the armed struggle and fulfilling other defense tasks.
They have an outstanding role in the defense of the country.
Most of the militia units fulfill missions of a territorial nature, as
set out by the Provincial, Municipal and Zone Defense
Councils.
They are set up on a voluntary, selective and territorial basis.
The militia members are considered to be soldiers when they are mobilized
to fulfill missions characteristic of active military service.
| STRUCTURE
|
 |
The Territorial Troops Militia is organized into divisions, regiments,
battalions and independent companies. There
are also special formations. More
than a million Cubans, almost half of them women, belong to the militias.
The militia units are armed one hundred per cent with infantry weaponry,
artillery and anti-aircraft artillery. These combat means are found distributed
near where the militia members live, which guarantees their rapid delivery when
necessary.
| SPECIAL FORMATIONS
|
 |
The civil economic bodies can create, according to the needs of
territorial defense and using their own resources, groupings of forces and
equipment with the character of Special Formations of the militia.
The commanders of these bodies are obliged to prepare them and to give
them the necessary supplies.
The Special Formations of the militia do not differ fundamentally from
the organization of the service or production sectors from which they are
grouped and their objective is to ensure the combat actions and the operation of
the Provincial and Municipal Defense
Councils.
| FINANCING
|
 |
The costs incurred in the maintenance of the militia are financed to a
great extent through the voluntary contribution of citizens, both from the
monetary point of view and through the contribution of their free time for
carrying out the necessary training. In
2002, the amount of contributions from the population came to nearly thirty
two
million pesos.
