He participated in the revolutionary struggle against Batista's tyranny. He joined the Rebel Army in Column No. 1 on August 6, 1957, and was promoted to the rank of Captain for his merits in combat actions. 

He is a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and deputy to the National Assembly of the People’s Power. 

Among others, he has held the following positions: Chief of the Western Army, Substitute for the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) for Armament and Materiel, and FAR Chief Inspector.

First-class Camilo Cienfuegos Order and first-class Order for Service to Homeland in the FAR, as well as Ciro Redondo Invading Column Medal and Liberation War Combatant Medal stand out among the decorations he has been awarded.

He accomplished an internationalist mission in the People's Republic of Angola.
