ARMY CORPS GENERAL  LEOPOLDO CINTRAS FRIAS

 

Commander of the Western Army since 1990. 

He was born on March 17, 1941 

He is a Higher Military School graduate.

 

He participated in the revolutionary struggle against the Batista tyranny, undertaking different actions as a member of the 26th of July Movement.  He joined the Rebel Army towardsthe end of  1957 and formed part of  Column No. 1 José Martí.  

He is a member of the Political Bureau of the Cuban Communist Party and has formed part of its Central Committee since it was constituted.  He has been a Deputy to the National Assembly of the People’s Power.

He has filled, among others, the following positions:  Land Artillery Brigade Commander, Motorized Infantry Division Commander, Chief of the Artillery Division of the General Staff and Tank Division Commander.

 He accomplished  an internationalist missions in the People’s Republic of Angola as Commander of the Southern Front of the Southern Troops Group.  Commander of the Southern Troops Group and Head of the Cuban Military Mission.  In the Republic of Ethiopia he was Commander of the Third Tank Brigade.

 He has been awarded the title of Hero of the Republic of Cuba
