ARMY CORPS GENERAL JOAQUIN QUINTAS SOLA

 

Commander of the Central Army since 1987. 

He was born on March 12, 1939 

He is a Higher Military School graduate.

  

He participated in the revolutionary struggle against the Batista tyranny, undertaking different actions as a member of the 26th of July Movement.  He joined the Rebel Army in 1958 and formed part of the Frank País Second Eastern Front.  He fought at the head of a group of troops in the struggle against bandits in the early sixties. 

He is a member of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and Deputy to the National Assembly of the People’s Power. 

He has filled, among others, the following positions:  Infantry Battalion Commander, Chief of Staff and Commander of the Motorized Infantry Division, Chief of Staff of the Central Army, Second Chief of the Western Army, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Operations Division.

He accomplished two internationalist missions in the People’s Republic of Angola.  

He has been awarded the title of Hero of the Republic of Cuba.
